My Family’s Vow To Travel...With Little Humans
Many moons ago, before we had kids, my husband and I talked about how we would travel the world together. We even wrote a list of places we wanted to see and adventures we wanted to experience. We were super young and on a shoestring budget, but even still, we made travel a priority.
Then, we had our first son. Work schedules became increasingly demanding. We bought our first house. Financial demands changed. Not only did our bucket list seem to be put on the back burner, but with a tiny human in tow, travel logistics changed too. My oldest couldn’t make it to Target in the car without losing it, so how would he endure a road trip or anything else?
As my son grew and we grew into our new parent roles, we were able to go on a few adventures together. Getting out of our everyday routine was the kick in the pants we needed to bring out the old bucket list and start dreaming of travel again. Though it was significantly different from our travels before, we were so excited to explore the world with our newest little adventurer.
Enter pregnancy number 2. And this one was a doozy. Lots of bedrest and physical pain equaled not a lot of adventuring. Then, a tough postpartum recovery followed. We were back where we started.
As we rung in 2019, we made a pact to start traveling as a family on a regular basis - no matter what. We want to instill the love of travel in our sons at an early age. I realize that as a mom, perfect timing doesn’t exist anymore (amirite?) so instead of waiting for a “better” age for our boys to travel or for my husband and I not to be so exhausted from working on our careers or on our house (the list goes on and on), let’s get in the car and go!
We are starting small - our home state of Florida has so much to explore, and we can get to so many incredible destinations in our car within a day, so we’re starting there. Who wants to join us?
