On my family’s most recent trip to Walt Disney World, we had the pleasure of staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside. I have stayed here a few times over the years, and my love for this resort grows with every trip. From the Antebellum inspired architecture to the incredibly themed pools, delicious dining, and beautiful rooms, I have a hard time saying goodbye to this place on check out day.

When you walk into the lobby area, you are greeted with reservations and check in on your right and a beautiful lounge and gift shop on your left. If you’ll take a quick walk down memory lane with me, I remember relaxing at this very lounge by the fire with my husband while listening to live music a few vacations ago. We were engaged and childless at the time, and we sipped our delicious cocktails and soaked it all in. My oldest son ran right past this lounge this time around and headed straight for the Riverside Mill Food Court which features a huge water mill. He loved sitting by the window and watching the wheel go round and round while dining here.

Speaking of dining, you will definitely not go hungry while staying at this gorgeous place. We had several meals in the food court area which offers an array of options throughout the day. Be it Mickey waffles or artisan flatbreads, this place has it all!

We also dined at the resort’s sit down restaurant, Boatwright’s Dining Hall. Serving Louisiana style eats and delicious drinks, this place was a great option for a special night out with the family. The cornbread was to die for, and the crab bisque was by far my favorite part of the meal.

Our accommodations were absolutely lovely. We were upgraded to a Royal guest room during this stay, and goodness me, pixie dust was everywhere in our room! The story of the royal guest rooms is this: all of the Disney princesses have left gifts for Tiana, the host of this resort, in your room for you to enjoy. Little touches from your favorite Disney films are sprinkled throughout, from the bathroom sinks that are shaped like the lamp from Aladdin to a bench that is strikingly similar to the ruff-tastic ottoman from Beauty and the Beast to tapestries, portraits, and more. Even the headboards are royally ready as a sweet fireworks display in lights plays when switched on. My son was in absolute awe of this room, and I have to tell you, the little girl inside of me was bursting with excitement too. If you have a little prince or princess who loves the classic Disney princesses and films, I would definitely recommend staying in one of these rooms!

When we weren’t playing at the parks or in our room, you could find us at the pool! I actually don’t have any pictures of the pool because the second we got there, it was non stop boogie for my oldest son! He is a little over 2 and a half, and on this trip, he braved his first water slide! He loved it so much that he went down it 5 times in a row. In addition to the water slide, the pool boasts fun fountain features as well as a separate hot tub and very large kiddie pool. My husband and I were happy to grab a drink at Muddy Rivers while our boys splished and splashed the day away.

One of the things I love about all Disney resorts is the amount of activities each property offers. Port Orleans is overflowing with them. In fact, I believe you can spend a good 3 days here doing nothing but resort activities if you wanted to. I am excited to come back here in the future to go on a carriage ride, rent a surrey bike, and even go fishing! Water sports are available too, as the resort sits on the Sassagola River which you can travel to Disney Springs on by water taxi. My son always has fun at the resort playground, and when bedtime is a little bit later, we will definitely attend one of the nightly campfires. If all of that fun leaves you needing rejuvenation, you can always attend a poolside yoga session on property. This activity is definitely going on my bucket list! (Check out all of the recreation the resort offers here!)

All in all, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside is easily one of my all time favorite Walt Disney World Resort hotels. If you’re looking for a magical place to stay on your next Disney vacation, this might be the spot for you!

Warmly,

Marisa
