When my husband told me that he would be heading to Jacksonville for a board meeting, I asked him if we could come along and turn his work trip into a mini vacation. He of course agreed, and I am so glad he did! Our trip to Jacksonville Beach was so much fun!

What I love about going to the beach is that I feel like I can truly escape the world for a moment while I’m there. Even if I’m there for a short amount of time, I always leave feeling refreshed and at peace. Jacksonville Beach did not disappoint! The kids had an absolute blast soaking in the sun, we tried out some delicious restaurants, and we made some priceless memories together!

What We Did:

From sunup to sundown, we played at the beach! My toddler jumped in waves, searched for seashells and built sandcastles all day long. My youngest happily watched his brother and was fascinated by the sand all around him (sensory overload!). Beach vacations always remind me that kids really don’t need extravagant vacations to have fun - give them some water and sand, and they’ll be happy!

Where We Stayed:

We snagged a room at the Hampton Inn Jacksonville Beach Oceanfront. The hotel was just what we needed - it was right on the water, had some amenities that we were happy to take advantage of (free Wifi, complimentary breakfast, ample parking), but my favorite thing about the hotel was the direct access to the beach. Even though it’s right on the water, it is incredibly affordable (always a win in my book), and we were able to use our Hilton Honors points for our stay.

Where We Ate:

I’m always on the hunt for delicious new places to try, and this mini vacation was no different! There were ample family friendly restaurants to choose from, and everyone in our party greatly approved of the following:

  • Salt Life Food Shack - I was familiar with Salt Life merchandise, but I was behind the times and didn’t know that Salt Life now has restaurant locations throughout Florida! I loved the open air outdoor seating area where we dined; it’s incredibly casual - perfect for kids and pet owners (you can bring your fur babies to dine with you). Inside, you’ll find plenty of Salt Life merch, but my son’s favorite part of this place was the huge feature fish tank! Besides the amazing atmosphere, the food was delicious! I would definitely recommend the fish tacos. They also have an awesome kid’s menu. The majority of the meals are under $20.00 each and all kid’s meals are under $10.00. Affordable, delicious - a win win!

  • Metro Diner - Metro is one of my favorite diners in all of these United States. I’ve come back to this diner time after time for their incredible breakfasts and lunches. The diner style food is simple, fresh, and really delicious. The atmosphere is perfect for kids - definitely try this place out if you have the chance!

  • Mellow Mushroom - For the pizza lovers, this place is a must! This restaurant is super funky and colorful; it’s upbeat and you feel as though you’re part of the party while dining! The pizzas are creative and so good (the pizza crust is divine in itself!). A large specialty pie will cost you somewhere in the $20.00 - $25.00 range, and it can easily feed 4. They have a wonderful kid’s menu too that offers a variety of sides if you don’t want your little one chowing down on fries.

Although we only visited Jacksonville Beach for a small amount of time, we had loads of fun. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking for a fun beach getaway but don’t necessarily want to go all out on a South Florida beach destination. Delicious food, fun, and waves await - the perfect mini getaway!
