Review: Kona Cafe

Review: Kona Cafe

On my family’s most recent trip to Walt Disney World, we dined at one of my favorite spots - the Kona Cafe. After discovering this place on my first anniversary trip (almost 6 years ago!) - I have had the pleasure of returning time and again for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

One of the reasons I love this restaurant is purely the location. You can find it at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. I would love to stay at this magical place some day, but until then, I will soak everything in with visits to its restaurants and strolls along the lagoon. There is a huge green space located right outside of the lobby which is perfect for non resort guests to play and explore. A beach area with porch swings awaits too. Also, Pineapple Lanai serves Dole Whips all day every day - are you ready to pack our bags?

Eek! I’m getting off track daydreaming about the resort - back to our meal! On our last trip to the happiest place on Earth, we were celebrating Mother’s Day. Now that we have kiddos, my husband and I usually skip sit down meals since our little ones don’t do incredibly well at restaurants, but we decided to take a chance and do something a little special this time. As usual, this restaurant experience delivered!

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. You can commit to casual or dress up a little bit too, and either option will work! It is a bit louder, so if you’re looking for intimate conversation, this isn’t the place to go, but the food is divine! The cuisine is American with an Asian twist. We started our meal with sushi, and the rolls rivaled some of our go to Japanese restaurants back home. I absolutely loved the poached chicken noodle salad, and my husband indulged in the ribeye. Dinner is a la carte, so our party tried the lobster and crab macaroni and cheese. My toddler went bonkers for this dish! Don’t worry, we ate our veggies, and really enjoyed the grilled asparagus. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. Our waitress was amazing and was incredibly accommodating with booster seats, high chairs, kiddie cups, and lots of extra crayons for my boys to use while they waited to eat.

Though the meal was a little different than the first time my husband and I dined there, kid free and without much married life under our belt, we enjoyed this meal even more than the first time around. I’m sure we’ll come back in the future for another great Disney dining experience!
